1910 - Act of 10 February 1910 (on the nationality of the population of Netherlands East Indies)

Policy Field:
Naturalisation & Citizenship
Major Implications of the Reform:
  • The act created a special nationality status for the population of Dutch colonies (Netherlands East Indies). This status, Netherlands subject not being Netherlands national, was used until 1949 in Indonesia and until 1962 in Netherlands New Guinea.
  • The nationality status could be acquired by children born to persons with permanent residence in the Netherlands East Indies (art. 1 sub 1), but in some exceptional case the status could also be acquired by ius soli (Art. 1 sub 2).
